Wellington Street, Grimsby

 

The Longhurst Group approached Hodson Architects to develop a difficult backlands site in the West Marsh area of Grimsby.

 

The scheme of 15 flats, 1 disabled persons flat and 20 houses are arranged in groups to reinforce the site shape thus providing meaningful public and private amenity spaces at the heart of the site. A sense of community is therefore encouraged. Yards are kept to the rear of properties which enables a clear 'front to back' hierarchy to be developed for the internal layouts.

 

Whilst three of the properties are within refurbished terrace houses, the others are new build timber framed construction producing adaptable internal layouts. Common sense thinking and a commitment by the client to achieve a sustainable development have led to an expected 'very good' BRE eco-homes standard.
