Hair and Beauty Department, Oasis Academy, Immingham

The site is located within the grounds of the existing Oasis Academy, Immingham.

The principle aim of the project is to create a space for the teaching and practice of hair and beauty treatments, and as such occupies a position both physically and socially between the academy and the community.

The buildings program is arranged around a straight central axis running through a circular plan form. The shape is intentionally defensive to the external environment whilst internally, a number of courtyards and gardens exist to create views out of the rooms and break the barrier between internal and external space. The courtyard areas provide the primary means of natural daylight and ventilation to the building, whilst a number of rooflights, and a large glazed roof area provide yet more natural light.
