Eco-housing Development, Harpswell

Harpswell is a small village in Lincolnshire comprising a few houses, a church and a farm.
This scheme which has the support of local authority agencies seeks to provide 10 houses and a community room on land within the village currently occupied by largely redundant farm buildings.
We aim to incorporate many ecologically sound elements to include rainwater harvesting, solar panels, solar heat stores and reclaimed materials. However the most important sustainable feature is a district heating system fuelled by bio-mass (coppice willow) grown by the local farmer.
The houses themselves have been designed to be as flexible as possible and incorporate ‘live/work’ opportunities such as home offices, studios within the roof-space and workshops.

This scheme has the potential to be a unique demonstration project, highlighting possibilities for energy efficiencies within the rural community. It is hoped that the development model created may be adopted as an example of ‘best practice’ and be transferred to other rural areas of the UK.
