South Community Hub

St. Mary's Catholic High School closed at the end of the academic year in July 2010 and since the closure the former school building has remained empty.

In the autumn of 2010 Secondary Avenue Resource Centre (SARC) contacted Hodson Architects to discuss the possibilty of using the vacant school as a new community hub for the Nunsthorpe Estate. SARC was established in 1995 and offers activities and services to the local community.

SARC would move from their premises on Second Avenue and run the new South Community Hub. A bid containing scheme proposals and an initial business plan, was submitted to the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) in November 2010, and a second bid to the ERDF was submitted with a full business plan in July 2011.
