St Johns Church, Gainsborough
This scheme proposes to house an art gallery, studios, a relocated 'playgroup' and other facilities within St John's Church, a Parish Church building of red brick and Ancaster stone, completed in 1902.
The existing structure will remain unaltered, however the internal
volume will be divided with a series of lighter' structures. The
spaces created will be heated using an eco-friendly biomass boiler
system. The existing landscaping will also be enlivened, through
the creation of external play spaces for children.
A new contemporary extension will be built to the South side of the
Church connected via a glazed link. An external exhibition
courtyard framed by glazed walls will allow light to permeate into
the building.
Completion: August 2008
Contract Value: £300,000
