Healthy Living Centre, Grimsby

Partners Hodson Architects were engaged to undertake a feasibility study on behalf of Grimsby Yoga & Meditation Centre (GYMC) which focused on the provision of new premises for the group.

The scheme is based on two components. The first is a sympathetic refurbishment of the exisiting building including the reinstatement of certain detail features (rainwater goods, windows).

The second element is arranged as a pair of single storey linked pavillions around a courtyard/cloister. They link to the existing building through the southerly elevation of the main lodge and are therefore largely unseen from the access route into the cemetery. The courtyard is an attractive focal point and usable ‘outdoor room’ with deck areas and fragrant planting. The pavillions and linking cloister are of timber framed construction with large areas of glazing timber cladding, the roofs are copper clad.
